This update feels more like a fix of all the old features, and improvements. GOOD improvements. Moreover these were features we all wanted and were voiced a lot in android forums:
- Screen shots!! - Inbuilt, no more rooting & installing SDK
- New Unlock Screen - Now you can take photos and view your notifications straight up without unlocking
- Create folders - iPhone style
- Gmail inbox - Quick preview & swipe b/w emails L2R
- Bookmarks sync with Google chrome - Thank God. This was much needed.
- Instant photos
- Notifications - Prettier, displays contact photos, Swipe from L2R
- Keyboard recommendations improved.
- Voice input - Now processed word by word instead of saying the whole sentence first.
The whole layout and design has also changed. First thing that pops up is the colour change. Now it's black and blue all over:
|
New Font: Roboto |
|
New Notification Bar |
|
Contacts Redesigned. Now called People app |
|
And of course NEW home screen |
The two features which were NEW and seemed pretty amazing were the face recognition for unlocking & Android Beam. But honestly these features felt more like the Nexus features rather than android, as not all phones can do that.
Over all, android is all polished up. Now back to android's biggest weakness: Who's getting the update? And who isn't? Your best bet is just to buy the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Personally, I can't wait to get my hands on one.

Everything seems great.. except for the name. Ice-cream Sandwich? Seriously?!
Alex, Google names their Android OS's after desserts, for example, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, now Ice Cream Sandwich.
